My name is Marko, a writer, an ordinary father, and husband who recently hit 40. Now, a lot of folks look forward to entering a new decade in their life… but NOT me.
In fact, I downright dreaded hitting the big “four-oh,” but not because I was getting old. I felt like I hadn’t reached my full potential despite having forty whole years to do it.
While other people my age were already well-established in their careers, I was falling far behind.
I knew that I could be a better partner to my wife and a better father to my kids. But I was too caught up in my sense of inadequacy and simmering frustration to be present for them.
I also had a minimal social life and didn’t have a whole lot of friends to hang out with. Most of my time was dedicated to my day job, which was anything BUT a rich and fulfilling career.
Meanwhile, the people I knew from high school and college were living fabulous lives.
As far as I was concerned, they could go wherever they wanted, do whatever they wanted, and they were perfect in just about every way.
